New Email Scam: “This is Sad” or “Please Help!”

March 25th, 2011 · No Comments · Client Updates

This new scam comes from your friends email accounts. Their email gets hacked and an email is sent as if they are stuck and really need your help in another country they were visiting. The email reads as follows:

I’m writing this with tears in my eyes, I came down here to London, United Kingdom for a short vacation unfortunately I was mugged at the park on my way to hotel where I stayed, all cash, credit card and cell were stolen off me but luckily for me I still have my passports with me.

I’ve been to the embassy and the Police here but they’re not helping issues at all and my flight leaves in a couple of hours but am having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won’t let me leave until i settle the bills.

I’m freaked out at the moment.I need urgent assistance.

Please please please do not entertain these kinds of emails or any other emails you are not expecting that seem suspicious. If they don’t read well they are likely scams. If you are worried that maybe your friend is in need call them, or their family. How would they not be able to call you but be able to email? The embassy will allow them to call home especially in situations explained.

I get way to many emails from people that have been scammed and how difficult it was to recover from these instances. Do not click on links from emails you are not expecting or especially those that seem weird or misspoken. As a last resort good the email address it came from or the subject of the email and more often than not there is someone telling their story on how they were scammed by the same exact email.
